Relationships Brief: The Packet Station

The Relationship

Your task is to make three more compelling images of three groups of different people showing the relationship and social dynamics between each other. The groups can include anything from two or more people within the context of a family, a community or a religious cult – again, the choice is yours and you are most welcome to produce the most varied and dynamic pictures as you possibly can

Constraints:

You can present a mixture of ambient and flash lit subjects, but you should include one example of flash. Again, choose subject matter that is easy to organise, and locations that are possible to visit within the timescale of the project. You will have to visit your subject more than once in order to get the range of images that will allow you to select a final image and resolve any technical issues that will inevitably crop up.

Materials and Presentation:

This project should be shot on 35mm format and using digital technologies. Produce both digital contact sheets and work prints using DIGITAL darkroom techniques and the images should in the first instance be printed full frame. These images should be ‘edited’ in the digital darkroom using similar techniques to traditional.
NO over saturation and sharpening!                 All prints MUST be captioned.

My first set of  pictures was taken in The Packet Station in Falmouth, a typical gathering centre or watering hole for all sorts of different types and ages of people. For this aspect of my research on relationship I wanted my presence to be unobserved hence creating a naturalistic representation of a relationships opposed to one that is forced/posed for the camera, however due to this I was quite limited to the angle and subject of my photos focussing on this elderly couple of friends and a grandmother and her grandchild.
